PAWS Advising Enhancements

Graduation Audits:
The Graduation Application is available in PAWS to seniors immediately after their registration period. Please encourage your eligible senior advisees to apply for graduation early. Graduation audits are being performed on a rolling basis, to ensure that students who apply early receive early notification and have an opportunity to adjust their schedule if necessary.

PAWS Graduation Application: Diploma Mailing Address Added:
Students will now be asked to review and update the address to which they want their diploma sent when they apply for graduation in PAWS. We hope this will reduce the volume of returned mail and ensure students receive their diploma in a timely manner.

PAWS “Academic Planner” has a new name! Introducing the “Course Planner”:
The Academic Planner  has been renamed to Course Planner to emphasize that it is a distinct advising tool and should not be confused with the Academic Requirements report. The Course Planner is a great tool to plan what courses a student needs to take to graduate, but because it includes those planned and not yet taken courses , it should not be used to determine progress toward graduation . Instead the Academic Requirements report excels in that function, as it is used by the evaluations staff for graduation audits and degree checkout.

Beta Testing: Submitting Exceptions and Substitutions (Memos) in PAWS:
Be on the lookout for PAWS Electronic Memos! We are currently beta testing a modification to PAWS that will allow exceptions, waivers, or substitutions (memos) to a student’s academic requirements to be submitted electronically through the PAWS Advising Tools page. Currently, this is being tested by a select group of volunteer faculty and staff who are authorized to submit Memos.

With this enhancement, if a Memo is entered on the Advising Tools page in PAWS, it will be emailed to the person who entered it, the student’s advisors, the student, and the evaluator who will review and enter the Memo in PAWS. We are looking to expand access to this feature as soon as we complete testing. We are also planning to add an automated notification when a Memo has been entered onto the PAWS academic requirements report.

PAWS What If Report Made More User Friendly:
The What If feature has been made more user friendly by limiting users to the selection of only one academic program
(school). A common mistake that users made was selecting multiple programs when using the report (example: School of Science for their Biology Major and School of Business for their Management Minor). However, a student’s program is
determined by their primary major only and selecting multiple programs could lead to requirement errors. Limiting the selection to one program, the primary program, will help increase the accuracy of What If reports and reduce user
error.

Advisor Review Status Removed in PAWS:
The Advisor Review Status column from the My Advisees tab on Advisor Center has been removed. However, you will still be able to view your advisees official graduation status on the My Advisees tab and on the Advising Tools tab.

PAWS Transfer Credit Report Improved:
Due to improvements in the way we receive transfer credits, we have also updated our PAWS Transfer Credit Report to include the descriptions of the incoming transfer course, not just the subject and catalog number. It can be accessed by viewing the Transfer Credit Report on the Advising Tools page in PAWS.

PAWS Graduation Comments:
Faculty may now see Graduation Checkout comments on the PAWS Advising Tools page. These comments are added by the evaluations staff when a student encounters a problem during their graduation audit. If a student comes to you because they have an encountered a graduation checkout problem, these comments can ensure that you, the student,
and the evaluator all are aware of the issue so that it can be resolved.

PAWS Help tutorials are in the process of updating with new text and images. Stay tuned!
